Programme Management Officer

In this role, you will support the Governance & PMO Manager in the management of the Midlands Connect Programme including the effective operation of the agreed governance, finance and procurement structures. 

What will you be doing?

  • Support the planning and management of the overall Midlands Connect programme ensuring project leads meet the agreed objectives, timescales, standard of quality and cost constraints required to deliver the Midlands Connect Programme
  • Support the agreed Governance structures and procurement procedures to ensure that the correct governance and reporting arrangements are implemented in line with the requirements of the Midlands Connect Partnership and the DfT
  • Support the quality and risk management approach implemented by each of the Midlands Connect area leads and the control of all necessary contingency & recovery plans

Please note that this role is based at Midlands Connect's office on Great Charles Street in the centre of Birmingham (B3 3HN). 

The essential skills and experience we're looking for:

  • PRINCE 2 Practitioner or equivalent
  • Ability to be self-motivated and to work to own initiative
  • Experience of supporting the coordination of complex projects/programmes including monitoring of time and budget constraints
  • Experience in and strong capability for supporting the production of detailed project plans working to the principles of work breakdown structures and critical path analysis
  • Experience of working within governance arrangements and ensuring compliance across a programme
  • Ability to effectively support and facilitate multiple projects and prioritise work as appropriate
  • Experience of proactive risk management, identifying, communicating and mitigating project risk
  • Strong communicator with ability work across multi-disciplinary teams gather, interpret analyse and question programme updates
  • Experience in producing monthly programme update reports to satisfy both internal and external reporting requirements
  • Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines and under pressure

About the team

Here at Midlands Connect, we explore, develop and recommend major transport projects which provide the biggest possible economic and social benefits for the Midlands and the rest of the UK. These initiatives will create more capacity for passengers and freight on the Midlands’ roads and railways. As the Sub-national Transport Body for the Midlands and transport partner of the Midlands Engine, our partnership is vast: councils, LEPs, Chambers of Commerce, airports, HS2 Ltd, Network Rail, Highways England, and our sponsor the Department for Transport.
